ENLIGHTEN ASIA 2023 In Japan

Beyond lighting: the first in-person event in 4 years
explores what lies beyond the lighting industry and lighting design.

Enlighten Asia 2023 in Japan, held over two days from Wednesday, November 15 to Thursday, November 16, 2023, was the event’s first in-person iteration in the 4 years since the COVID-19 pandemic (with some parts also offered online). This year's theme was “Beyond Lighting.” Through a series of six seminars, featuring sessions with lighting designers from Japan and abroad, experts from various fields, and students, lighting and design issues in Asia were discussed from many perspectives to explore what lies beyond the lighting industry and lighting design. Other events included: “3-Minute Cooking for Lighting a Room” which introduced eye-catching lighting tricks, “Lighting Trends on Stage” in which lighting product developers presented items that address social themes and trends, and “MOTOKO's Room” featuring Motoko Ishii, a recipient of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon. At the end of the first day, a cocktail party was held at the Jiyu Gakuen Myonichikan, the venue and an Important Cultural Property of Japan. On the last day, the “Enlighten Asia in Japan Farewell Party” was held in Minami Ikebukuro Park. The participants enjoyed mingling in person after a long time away.
