2nd IALD Japan Light Talk Salon “Let’s hear about simulation software!”
The second Light Talk Salon, sponsored by IALD Japan, was held on August 26, 2024.
This time, the theme was “Let’s hear about simulation software!” and we had presentations from companies involved in the development and sale of lighting simulation software such as DIALuxevo, REALAPS, Twinmotion, Enscape, and Lightnign Flow, as well as related software.
ENDO Lighting Corp., a partner company of DIAL, the company that developed the software, gave an explanation about the lighting simulation software DIALux evo.
DIALux evo is free software, and the idea is to create a 3D architectural model on a personal computer, input the light distribution data of the lighting fixtures, and then verify the effect of light.
And the biggest advantage is that a lighting equipment manufacturer that has a contract with DIAL can put in and verify lighting equipment and light distribution data from any manufacturer in the world. “He introduced a 3D model created with actual lighting equipment.
It is characterized by being able to verify the effect of light by changing various viewpoints, such as outdoor viewpoints and floor-to-room viewpoints, and using this software makes it easier for the client and the planner to share lighting requirements and anxiety elements because the plan of light can be visually understood.
Twinmotion and Enscape are plug-ins used in CAD, BIM, and other software. Too Corporation, a distributor of Twinmotion, said of the plug-in, “It emphasizes speed and is compatible with a variety of tools,” and added, “It is the most expressive when it comes to scenes with movement, such as the recently trendy motion sensors.”
If you create an account of Epic, the developer, and save the created scene in the cloud, it is a great attraction that the client can experience the scene on a web browser.
About Enscaoe, STUDIO55 Inc, which is a software agent, explained that “IES data can be used and the speed of rendering is fast.”
On the other hand, there is also a voice that “It is not good at expressing the reflection of the material.”
However, it is unusual in rendering software to be able to set the lighting view, so it was “If you can use it as a tool to visually grasp where the space is bright.”
About REALAPS provided by Visual Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd. “It is software that can convert the simulation value of lighting into luminance and chromaticity distribution and compare it with the actual appearance of light.
The first consideration in lighting design is illuminance, but it is necessary to grasp the luminance to verify the appearance of light. “He explained.
Furthermore, the phenomenon of “adaptation” occurs due to the surrounding colors, and the appearance changes, so it was stated that “the brightness must be estimated in consideration of that.”
Since the light simulated or seen in VR somehow feels that it is correct, the method of confirming the true appearance by the luminance and chromaticity distribution etc. is fresh and has led to the reconsideration of the appearance of the light.
Lastly, Panasonic Corporation commented on Lightning Flow, “It is a software that can instantly capture architectural and lighting data created by BIM and 3DCAD software and check the effect of light,” and was named speed and accuracy as the biggest feature.
“It significantly reduces the computation time for light reproduction, which has been considered a problem for conventional lighting simulations, and it is highly accurate in compliance with the accuracy standards recommended by International Commission on Illumination.”
According to the verification data that shows the sense of speed, in commonly used software, the calculation of light that takes 45 seconds ends in 1 second.
If the light environment can be checked quickly, it will be possible to make many trials such as changing the position of the lighting, so we could expect to bring it closer to our ideal architectural space.
The second Light Talk Salon ended with a demonstration of Lightning Flow DMX-compatible lighting fixtures, touching on DMX support for stadiums and other light production projects that have recently been worked.
After the lecture, the audience and ZOOM viewers asked questions one after another, and everyone was eagerly listening to the answers of the companies.
