Enlighten Asia in Japan, held for the first time in Asia in 2013, was well-received as an international seminar by lighting designers sending out messages from Japan to the world. In the second seminar held in 2015, ideas and expressions of lighting designers, who embody the evolution of lighting control technology that is developing rapidly along with the evolution of LED, were presented through seminars and programs of a wide variety. Many audiences were shown the achievements of lighting design and a vision of the future where the lighting industry will advance rapidly. In 2017, the Japan International Association of Lighting Designers will cooperate in the planning of programs in the lighting fair co-hosted by the Japan Lighting Manufacturers Association and Nikkei Inc. to provide even more attractive and high-quality contents. During the period from March 7 to 10, 2017, a multitude of different contents planned by lighting designers will be offered beyond the venue of Tokyo Big Sight. We are welcoming everyone to participate the event.

■ Lecture celebrating the holding of Lighting Fair 2017

“The power of sports, the power of light; TOKYO 2020 and what Japan needs in the future”

Promotion of sports, which creates the excitement of crowds, is one of the keys towards community rejuvenation, increase in the number of visitors, and industrial promotion. While the restructuring of cities and infrastructure is rapidly progressing towards the Olympic and Paralympic Games being held in Tokyo in 2020, light, which is essential for stadiums, roads, and other facilities, is considered as an important factor for creating an attractive urban community.

Thus, in this lecture, we invite Mr. Saburo Kawabuchi, who is a leading authority on sports promotion, holding numerous prominent positions related to sports up to now, and Ms. Motoko Ishii, who is continuously sending out messages on the attractiveness of Japan as a lighting designer, to discuss what is necessary for Japan in the future from the perspective of “sports” and “light.”
